Wet Paint! : An Introduction
This blog post was originally titled “Wet Paint: Issue #001,” but it got long enough to be it’s own post, so welcome to “Wet Paint: Introduction.”
Maybe it’s overly optimistic to publish the first issue of a newsletter with three digits, but as anyone who ever sorted numerically can attest, prepping now means less work at issue #010 and #100! I’ll have some decisions to make at #1000, but that’s getting way ahead of ourselves.
If you don’t know my background, even thinking there could be an issue #100 seems ambitious. This work may not have a cohost to rely on, like the 149 episodes of Culture Beat I wrote, produced, and hosted on WICN Public Radio did. The time it takes to curate, write, and publish isn’t compensated through tax revenue, like it was for 100+ of Worcester Cultural Coalition newsletters.
But you know why this is good? Wet Paint is mine - no boss or boards, no rules, no politics - just me and you the readers, clients, art lovers, and Worcester enthusiasts. What I aim to create here is something for people like us, a weekly listing of what’s on my radar for the visual arts, briefly, in order, and by category:
Events (galleries, markets, and more),
Opportunities (grants, residencies, calls for art, etc.), and
Paint Pants (formal wear likely discouraged for workshops, classes, and other hands-on, creative experiences).
You can expect information and resources in digestible, efficient servings. Jokes and puns inevitable, but no hyperbole or false promises.
